RDR2 is demanding chiefly because of its dense open world and its heavy use of volumetric lighting, foliage and detailed textures. The published minimum (a Core i5-2500K with a GTX 770) will only get you low settings at 1080p and modest frame rates; the recommended GTX 1060 tier is a more realistic floor for a smooth 1080p experience. To push high settings, higher resolutions or 60+ fps you'll want something well above the official recommended spec—a modern mid-range card such as an RTX 3060 or better. RAM matters here: 12 GB recommended (with many players preferring 16 GB) reflects the game's large streaming budget. An SSD isn't strictly required but is highly recommended to reduce texture pop-in. On Steam Deck the game is rated 'Playable' (not Verified): it runs at roughly 30–50 fps depending on area and settings, but it needs an always-online connection due to Rockstar's DRM and can crash occasionally.
