The platinum is built almost entirely around completion. You need to finish the main story and effectively every side quest, then clear the game's large collectible and activity checklist: all 95 Merlin Trials, all 33 Demiguise statues, the 150 Revelio-revealed field guide pages, and ultimately all 603 'Collections' — a catch-all counter that folds in things like discovering every enemy type, looting special chests in enemy camps, following butterflies and toads to treasure, and buying/finding assorted items. On top of that you fully upgrade gear, brew every potion, grow every plant, and earn 'Finishing Touches' by using Ancient Magic on 34 of the 69 enemy types. Crucially there are no combat-difficulty trophies, so you can set the game to Story mode and focus purely on ticking boxes.
The one genuine sticking point is the four house-tied trophies. Because your character can only belong to a single Hogwarts house per save file, reaching that house's Map Chamber story moment unlocks only that house's trophy — so earning all four means visiting the same beat as each house. Most players either make four short partial runs to that point (roughly a couple of hours each with cutscenes skipped) or use the well-known trick of backing up an autosave at the Sorting Ceremony and reloading it to pick a different house each time. Either way, the honest answer is yes: all four houses are required for the platinum, though only your 'main' house needs a full playthrough.
In practice a single main playthrough gets you around 90–95% of the way there, with the extra three houses being brief detours you can do before or after your main file. Budget somewhere in the 60–80 hour range; the challenge is patience and organized collectible-tracking rather than mechanical skill, so it helps to follow a map or collectibles route to avoid a tedious end-game sweep.
