The Witcher 3 has two eras of requirements. Steam still lists the original 2015 DirectX 11 minimum and recommended specs (GTX 660 / GTX 770, 6 GB RAM), which is what shown above as the minimum. The 2022 free next-gen update raised things: CD Projekt Red published additional DirectX 12 tiers, and hard-drive support is being dropped. The recommended row here reflects the next-gen DX12 'High' tier (GTX 970 / RX 480, 8 GB RAM) for a solid 1080p experience without ray tracing. Ray tracing is far heavier: CDPR's own guidance calls for an RTX 3070 or RX 6700 XT for 1440p RT with upscaling, and an RTX 3080 or RX 6800 XT for 4K with all RT features on, plus 16 GB of RAM. So the game scales from very modest hardware up to demanding RT setups. It is Steam Deck Verified in its non-RT modes. Note CDPR has announced upcoming changes that will further raise the minimum (dropping Windows 10 and HDD support) ahead of new content.
