Infinity Ward returns to the helm for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which launches worldwide on Friday, October 23, 2026. The game arrives on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, Battle.net and Xbox on PC, and — for the first time for a mainline Call of Duty since 2013 — a Nintendo platform, with a native Switch 2 version built in partnership with Digital Legends. Last-generation consoles are out entirely: there is no PS4 or Xbox One release, marking a clean break to current hardware for the series.
The campaign picks up the threads left dangling by Modern Warfare III, splitting its story between two protagonists. Captain Price is a fugitive after assassinating General Shepherd, hunted while former ally Ghost stands at odds with him and cartel boss Valeria Garza fights at his side. Meanwhile, Private Park, a South Korean recruit, defends his homeland against a full-scale North Korean invasion, with missions sweeping through Korea, Paris, New York and Mumbai. Beyond the campaign, Modern Warfare 4 ships with competitive multiplayer built around the new Ballistic Authority gunplay system and a revived DMZ extraction mode as its third pillar.
Two editions are on sale: the $69.99 Standard Edition and the $99.99 Vault Edition, the latter bundling the Hostile Alliance and Special Forces Operator packs, a five-weapon Signature Collection, BlackCell for Season 1 and a DMZ deployment bonus. Every digital pre-order unlocks the campaign a week early, on October 16, plus early access to the Open Beta — though Activision has not yet dated the beta itself. One big change from recent years: Modern Warfare 4 will not hit Game Pass at launch, with Microsoft now adding new Call of Duty titles to the service roughly a year after release.
