Multiplayer is supported via local wireless or online through Nintendo Switch Online — players can visit or host friends' islands, develop a shared 'Cloud Island', or play together freely in Palette Town. Online play requires an active Nintendo Switch Online membership, a stable connection and each player owning a copy of the game. Because every version runs on Switch 2 hardware, there is no cross-play question in the cross-platform sense.
