Valheim is a Viking-themed survival and exploration game from Swedish studio Iron Gate, published by Coffee Stain Publishing. Players awaken as fallen warriors dropped into a procedurally generated Norse purgatory, where they chop forests, raise longhouses, sail open seas, and hunt the towering bosses that stand between them and Valhalla. It can be played solo or in online co-op for groups of Vikings.
After more than five years in Early Access since its 2021 debut, Valheim reaches its 1.0 milestone on September 9, 2026. The full launch introduces the Deep North, the last of the game's biomes, and expands to PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time, joining PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S with cross-play across every platform. The standard price rises to $29.99 at 1.0, up from the $19.99 Early Access price.
For a game that became a breakout hit almost overnight, 1.0 marks the finish line that fans have tracked biome by biome. The Deep North fills the final blank space on the map, console newcomers on PS5 and Switch 2 can finally join friends who have been building since 2021, and full cross-play means Viking crews no longer need to share a storefront to raid together.
