Palworld Tips and Tricks for Efficient Play

The biggest efficiency gains in Palworld come from matching each Pal to its highest work-suitability level, protecting their sanity with beds and a Hot Spring, and breeding for a passive-skill stack like Legend, Muscle Head, Ferocious and Lucky. Cover several combat elements on your team using the type chart, and spend Technology points on Sphere upgrades, the Egg Incubator and mounts before anything cosmetic.

Once your Palworld base runs itself, the game becomes about efficiency: squeezing more work, better Pals and cleaner wins out of the same effort. These are the mid-level tricks that separate a functional camp from a machine.

Read work-suitability levels, not just the icons

Every base job in Palworld has a hidden speed multiplier tied to the Pal's suitability level, not just whether it can do the task at all. A Mining Level 3 Pal digs roughly three times faster than a Mining Level 1 Pal, so swapping in higher-level specialists is often a bigger upgrade than adding more bodies. Read the number on each Pal's work-suitability icons and put your best specialist on each station. Because base slots are limited to around 15 Pals, quality beats quantity: one Level 4 worker outproduces two Level 2s and eats fewer resources doing it. Move mismatched Pals off jobs they are slow at, and keep a dedicated Kindling, Watering, Mining, Lumbering and Handiwork Pal on every base.

Guard your Pals' sanity and condition

Pals have a sanity (SAN) bar that quietly wrecks productivity when you ignore it. Overwork, missing Pal Beds, poor food and being crammed into the Palbox all drain SAN, and a low-sanity Pal works slowly, wanders off, or refuses tasks. Let it bottom out and the Pal can become Depressed, which cuts its Work Speed by 30 and Movement Speed by 20 until you treat it with High Grade Medical Supplies. The fix is preventative: build a Hot Spring for passive SAN recovery, provide enough beds for your whole crew, keep quality food in the Feed Box, and pull exhausted Pals into your party to rest. Watch for other conditions such as Cold, Sick and Ulcer too, since each one shaves Work Speed until you cure it.

Breed for passive skills and better stats

Breeding is how you build genuinely elite Pals. Place a male and a female in a Breeding Farm with a Cake (baked from flour, milk, eggs, honey and berries) and they produce an egg every few minutes. The child can inherit up to four passive skills drawn from both parents' combined pool, plus stat potential (IVs) that stays hidden until you craft Ability Glasses. The trick is to curate parents so their combined passive pool is exactly the four skills you want; a strong combat stack is Legend, Muscle Head, Ferocious and Lucky for a large attack, defense and speed boost. Chain-breed toward that pool one skill at a time rather than hoping for a lucky roll. Palworld 1.0's new Genetic Recombination system goes further, letting you fuse genes and even Legendary traits into offspring, though exact outcomes can vary with server settings.

Design bases around pathing and clustering

Smart base design is mostly about pathing and clustering. Keep your Palbox central and build workstations close together so Pals aren't hiking across the map, and put the Feed Box and Pal Beds in the middle of the work area so tired, hungry Pals recover quickly. Flatten the ground or build on a foundation platform, because Pals stall on slopes and obstacles and simply stop producing. Specialize your three bases: one sitting on an ore-rich spot for mining, one packed with Berry Plantations and Ranches for food and materials, and a main base for crafting and production lines. A Hot Spring, a high-tier Feed Box and enough beds should be standard at every camp, not an afterthought.

Win fights with the element type chart

Combat rewards type knowledge. Every Pal and every attack is one of nine elements: Neutral, Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Ground, Ice, Dragon and Dark, and hitting a weakness deals 150% damage. Water beats Fire, Fire beats both Grass and Ice, Grass beats Ground, Ground beats Electric, Electric beats Water, Ice beats Dragon, Dragon beats Dark, and Dark beats Neutral, which has no strengths of its own. Carry a team that covers several elements so you always have an answer, and lean on mounts and partner skills to add damage of a type your character's gun lacks. The same logic helps catching: knock a tough Pal down fast with a super-effective element, then switch to weak hits to leave it barely alive before you throw a Sphere.

Spend Technology points and catch higher-tier Pals

  1. Spend regular Technology points on Pal Sphere upgrades first, since Mega then Giga Spheres dramatically raise catch rates on stronger Pals.
  2. Bank Ancient Technology points from Tower bosses and Alphas for the Egg Incubator early, then mount saddles and better gear.
  3. Unlock the Grappling Gun and a fast or flying mount to reach Alphas, dungeons and the 1.0 Sky Islands more easily.
  4. Before catching a high-tier or Alpha Pal, whittle its HP as low as possible and apply a status like freeze or stun.
  5. Throw Spheres from behind for the catch bonus, and always use the best Sphere tier you can currently craft.
  6. Chase the capture-power bonus by catching ten of a species, and watch for rare Lucky (shiny) Pals, which are larger and stronger.

Frequently asked

What are the best passive skills to breed for in Palworld?
For combat, Legend, Muscle Head, Ferocious and Lucky stack into a big attack, defense and movement boost. For workers, prioritize Work Speed passives such as Artisan and Serious.
How do I stop my Pals from getting depressed?
Keep sanity high with a Hot Spring, enough Pal Beds and good food, and avoid overworking a small crew. Cure existing Depression with High Grade Medical Supplies.
What beats Dragon-type Pals?
Ice attacks. Ice is the only element super-effective against Dragon and deals 150% damage. Dragon in turn is strong against Dark.
Which Technology should I unlock first?
Better Pal Spheres, the Egg Incubator (from Ancient points), mount saddles, and base automation like the Production Assembly Line and Power Generator give the most long-term value.
How does the new 1.0 breeding system work?
Genetic Recombination lets you fuse genes and Legendary traits into offspring for deeper control over inherited traits, building on the existing passive-skill and IV inheritance. Exact results can depend on server configuration.
How many Pals can one base hold?
Around 15 per base, so you get more out of a few high work-suitability specialists than a crowd of low-level workers competing for food and beds.
